The Boston platen press is a true workhorse — reliable and dependable. And that is one of the most beautiful qualities of this wonderful machine.

We already have a Hohner Boston platen in A5 format here. Both Boston platens are real working machines. Not quite as beautiful as their older brothers and not as delicate either – but hey, you want to print with them. Right?
We picked up this big brother of the smaller HOBO (link here) in a cellar. One very weighty reason for the 220-kilogram platen is that it looks almost like it came from the shop. It has rarely been used and has new rollers. Rarely, but sold here with this Hohner is a second locking frame, which is also new. A large platen with which you can print almost anything – even A3 posters (twice ;.))

Boston Platen

is currently being restored

About 1900 this Kahle Boston Platen was produced. Its last printjob was a wedding invation fron 1972. We have carefully taken it apart, gently cleaned it and given it a fresh coat of varnish where necessary. This piece of jewellery have two outstanding features:
Performing the finest platen work and looking really good while doing so.

The manufacturer of this outstanding platen is
Emil Kahle Maschinenfabrik Leipzig-Paulsdorf.

In about 1928, this extraordinary piece was made. A foot pedal drives the large wheel, with which the rollers and the closing frame are operated. At the same time, the paper is inserted by hand and in the same short time window, the printed is removed. A real thrill – maximum concentration is required here.
